USDA program which provides approximately $1.5 million per year in funds to FPS. The National Clean Plant Network (NCPN) is a United States Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS) funded program of national scope. Funding was first initiated in the 2008 Farm Bill. The goal of the NCPN is to provide funding and coordination among public sector clean plant centers at public Land Grant Universities. Incumbent serves as NCPN Tier II Coordinator, providing leadership in administrative and programmatic areas to this committee. The incumbent will also represent FPS and UC Davis at national NCPN meetings and conference calls for the other FPS NCPN crops, strawberries, fruit and nut trees, roses, and sweet potatoes.
Work is performed under the direction of faculty supervisor.
Job Summary
This position reports to faculty member who is also Director of Foundation Plant Services (FPS), a self-supporting center in CAES whose primary function is to produce, maintain, and distribute virus-tested plant materials of deciduous fruit and nut trees, grapevines, strawberries, sweet potatoes and roses for research and public commercial use. FPS is a self-supporting unit with an average income of over $4 million a year; 35 career employees funded with the center’s income; facilities including laboratories, office space, conference space, greenhouses and shade houses: and over 250 acres of field activities. The Assistant Director supports the Director in the administrative and technical tasks of managing FPS funding initiatives, and outreach activities, assembles scientific information for internal and external use, writes technical documents, laboratory protocols, and draft research papers for the department. The incumbent is responsible for writing grant applications, research progress reports, scientific documents and popular outreach publications. Other tasks include organizing stakeholder meetings including communications, logistics and program content. Respond to email, manage calendar, and coordinate deadlines.

Advanced degree in Plant Pathology, or equivalent combination of education/training.
Demonstrated experience in communicating with growers, scientists and regulatory personnel.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :
Knowledge of technical procedures and scientific principles that are the basis for horticultural clean plant programs, particularly the programs of Foundation Plant Services.
Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication.
Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
Ability to work with frequent interruptions, under pressure of time constraints and a diverse workload.
