The Middle School Administrative Dean will join the Junior School Principal and Assistant Principals to comprise the Junior School Administrative Team. The Middle School Administrative Dean should have a strong foundation in educating the middle school student, including knowledge and experience with research-based pedagogy, curriculum, and assessment. The Administrative Dean will also actively support students and families as they integrate fully into life and learning at Punahou. Additionally, the Administrative Dean will be responsible for leading and supporting faculty through initiatives that advance educational practice and operationalize the Aims of a Punahou Education. The ideal candidate will:
Ensure an age-appropriate student experience aligned with the Aims of a Punahou Education through effective leadership.
Communicate and interact extensively with parents; play a key role in the admissions process and a vital role in educating parents about a range of educational and developmental issues relevant to early adolescent education.
Provide a high level of attentiveness to students and families; provide expertise and guidance for parents and faculty to assure that student needs are met.
Work collaboratively with the Junior School Administrative Team and Assistant Principals to facilitate and implement learning that is grounded in 21st century pedagogy and aligned with a K-12 vision.
Collaborate with Counselors, Learning Support Specialists, and faculty to support students’ academic and socio-emotional development.
Work collaboratively with Deans from the other divisions, as well as with K-12 faculty and administration to support the instructional vision of the school and to cultivate rich student experience.
Work with students from diverse backgrounds and their families, the intuition to recognize students’ feelings and other non-verbal indicators and cues, and sensitivity to the nature and functioning of the student within the family, school, and community contexts.
Collaborate and seek consultation to guide legal, ethical, and situation-specific decision making and to resolve ethical dilemmas.
Demonstrate a personal and professional code of ethics that protects the rights and confidentiality of students and faculty/staff.
Supervise staff in division to ensure that all job responsibilities are met and work with members of the JSAT to ensure that performance expectations are met by faculty.
Work with the Junior School Administrative Team and faculty to support the hiring and employment processes.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Education or related field.
Five (5) years of experience working in a middle school setting.
Supervisory and/or leadership experience in an educational setting.
Passionate about children and creating the best conditions for their learning and growth.
Committed to the success of all students; readiness to advocate, to nurture relationships, to seek resources, to think creatively to ensure student success.
Highly responsive to the diverse needs of students, their families and faculty; sensitivity to diverse backgrounds represented within the Punahou community, the intuition to recognize feelings and other non-verbal indicators and cues, and sensitivity to the functioning of the student within the family, school, and community contexts.
