Position Summary
IREX seeks a qualified short term consultant to support professional development training and materials for educators around civics education for an Iraq higher education program. The anticipated duration of the consultancy work is up to four months from September 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022 with specific Level of Effort (LOE) assigned throughout the duration of the assignment in close collaboration with IREX.
DELIVERABLES
Under the supervision and in consultation with the Iraq program team leaders and associated staff, the Short Term Consultant will provide support designing professional development training and materials for educators in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Specifically, the short term consultant will complete the following ongoing tasks:
Design professional development training material for teachers that integrates civics education and basic skills for society across curriculum to include: classroom and school based activities and templates, extra curricular activities, debate clubs, student governance models, advisory councils, and service learning opportunities;
Design professional development training material for teachers on classroom based activities that can be integrated across multidisciplinary curriculum that builds student’s skills for dialogue and debate;
Design professional development training material for teachers in the KRG that integrates curriculum based activities for media literacy skills and recognition of mis information and dis information;
Support training of lead educators in simple teaching methods as needed.
Skills and Experience
Required Abilities and Experience
BA degree in education;
At least three years experience applying civics education in the classroom or school and knowledge of current relevant best practices in applying civics education in schools;
Experience designing training curriculum;
Experience leading training for adults, preferably educators;
Strong attention to detail and demonstrates clear communication skills;
Ability to initiate, make decisions and problem solve;
Knowledge of relevant computer applications, including MS Office and Excel.
Preferred Abilities and Experience
Experience working with educators cross culturally, preferably in post conflict areas such as Iraq.
Evaluation Criteria
To qualify for this consultancy, candidates must have the qualifications and experience in each of the areas listed under “Required Abilities and Experience,” and be able to provide examples for these.
Candidates who have the required abilities and experience will be more competitive if they can also demonstrate experience and skills listed under “Preferred Abilities and Experience.”
