Responsibilities:
Programmatic (Professional Development – Equity, Diversity & Inclusion):

• Collaborate with project leadership to design professional development opportunities for physics faculty and other department stakeholders based on the Effective Practices for Physics Programs (EP3) Guide
• Develop professional and pedagogical skills of physics faculty
• Support diversity, equity and inclusion amongst research groups, practitioners, and education programmatic assessment/evaluation practices

Higher Education Change Management:

• Develop and facilitate impactful activities for participants and members, drawing on knowledge of scientific academic culture and environment
• Increase the impact of the EP3 Guide by engaging the physics community through workshops, webinars, articles, marketing materials, and website development
• Ensure project offerings are in line with effective practices for increasing equity, diversity, and inclusion in physics education

Project Management:

• Organize programming and logistics for conferences using task lists, agendas, and outcomes
• Develop and implement assessments and evaluations to inform projects
• Develop and manage project work plans
• Meet all objectives, deliverables, and deadlines associated with assigned projects
• Manage sub-awards and contracts by writing agreements, monitoring progress, reviewing outcomes, and ensuring that funder requirements are met
• Manage and track project budgets and approve invoices
• Work collaboratively with program manager team and program teams
• Supervise summer interns, consultants, and contractors when necessary

Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master or advanced degree strongly preferred. Degrees in physics or related fields (e.g., astronomy, astrophysics, biophysics, chemical physics, cosmology, computer science, nuclear, quantum, mathematical physics, high energy physics, condensed matter, thermodynamics and statistical physics, engineering physics, geophysics, medical physics, optics, or physics education research) are required.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Minimum 2 years of work experience; directly applicable experience with demonstrated skills/expertise.
• Familiar with issues affecting the physics community through direct experience with science research and pedagogy, and an ability to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders in the physics community.
• Knowledge of peer-reviewed literature, reports and other publications related to faculty professional development and higher education organizational change preferred.
• Experience in organizing events and writing complex reports and promotional materials.
• Must be able to work independently and recognize critical issues or decisions that require deliberation based on complex interactions between project participants and stated policies.

Travel: The position requires frequent travel to conduct site and vendor assessments, and to attend meetings and events as part of its core responsibilities, as well as additional travel as assigned.

Work Environment:
Our physical offices are located in College Park, MD, Washington D.C and Hauppauge, N.Y. We are operational in most US states. We are not operational in all 50 states. APS allows flexible work hours; responsiveness is required, however, during the core 9 am to 5pm Eastern Standard Time workday.
