Departmental Overview
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA) provides leadership and administrative support to nineteen (19) units with over 1600 career positions, and an additional 1,500 student and 268 limited staff; and an annual operating budget of $350M. In addition, the Financial Aid Office directly awards over $400 million from over 700 funding sources to 25,000 undergraduate and graduate students at the University of California, Berkeley.

Responsibilities
Support departments in the development of assessment plans, including defining measurable program goals, identifying appropriate indicators and learning outcomes, determining the appropriateness of quantitative or qualitative information and measurement methods, benchmarking, and monitoring progress of assessment activities.
Lead a working group of other assessment staff within the division. Ensure assessment and evaluation efforts are aligned with and support the division wide Strategic Plan. Ensure that an adequate number of departmental assessment and evaluation results contribute to divisional strategic goals and university goals.
Research and disseminate emerging and best practices in Student Affairs Assessment and Evaluation.
Research, gather, analyze and summarize information for research projects with a broad range of internal and external and/or current and historical information.
Synthesize information from a variety of sources, composing appropriate tables, charts and narrative summary of data and present them in a non-technical manner.
Organize and implement data-sharing across units within the division and regularly review and provide units feedback on evaluation methods in order to improve data collection and analysis processes. Serve as an expert on campus data systems, such as Cal Answers and Campus Solutions reporting, and provide consultation and training on data sourcing and analysis to other units.
Provide expert consultation on survey design, administration, and analysis for units within the division.
Serve as a liaison between Student Affairs the Office of Planning & Analysis (the central campus institutional research office). Collaborate with research analysts across campus, frequently serving as a project lead in developing data analysis for campus leaders, committees and working groups.
Respond to requests for information and follow up on questions and comments as needed.
Coordinate and support other analytical projects as needed.
Maintain a leading role in assessment and evaluation through participation in professional organizations.
Monitor the assessment environment for emerging and best practices in student development theory and research methodology to foster a culture of innovation and creativity in Student Affairs with respect to assessment and evaluation.
Required Qualifications
Requires thorough knowledge in data collection and analysis techniques; statistics or social science research techniques; knowledge of common computer application programs (for example, query tools and relational databases); ability to gain knowledge of campus principles and procedures involved in handling sensitive data (for example, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA).
In depth knowledge of creating and implementing a comprehensive assessment program, including measuring student learning outcomes at the divisional level.
Able to synthesize complex issues and present them in a creative and non-technical manner and able to analyze raw data and convert it into meaningful statistics and graphs for presentations.
Able to provide good judgment and decision-making, problem solving, and the ability to prioritize complex assignments with overlapping deadlines.
Requires advanced active listening, critical thinking, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task and work as a member of multiple advanced project teams.
Ability to synthesize data and other information, note trends over time and determine strategic issues from data.
Advanced report writing, data presentation and visualization skills.
Keen attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, reason, work without direct oversight and multitask.
Ability to interact successfully with a wide range of executives, key senior administrators, and directors in executive settings.
Ability to collaborate, communicate, and engage effectively with diverse peer groups, including technical and non-technical staff within Student Affairs and with analysts across campus.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of campus rules and regulations.
Understanding of the higher education environment and the academic culture within a major public research university. Solid understanding of student affairs programs and services.
Salary & Benefits
